The Malaysian government has decided to start hiring foreign workers again on October 22 after being closed for almost a year and a half due to the coronavirus pandemic. A Reuters report at the time said foreign workers would be hired in key sectors, such as palm oil plantations and rubber gloves factories. The labor crisis intensified as workers from Malaysia, the world’s second-largest palm oil producer, returned to their home countries in Corona.

The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Human Resources will work with the Ministry of Health and the National Security Council to determine what the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) will be for hiring foreign workers to prevent the spread of corona. This may include issues such as workers not being allowed to stay in quarantine after arriving in Malaysia.
